Back in Melbourne with Justine, we had a day or two to spare before Justine flew home and back to reality, so we took the time to do some touristy sightseeing around Melbourne. This is mostly going to be a photo entry, as there's not much to tell, but it's great to see some other areas of the city rather than just the built up business and shopping side.
We took a walk from the city centre through a couple of parks that are literally five minutes away. Instantly, you feel like you're in a different place, and that's something I really like about Melbourne. Crossing the bridge away from the city, cosmopolitan life already seems so far away, and it's only just across the river!
Our initial stroll through the park still had a backdrop of skyscrapers, which are a stunning contrast to the huge green spaces and abundance of trees in the park..
Our walk through the park led us to Melbourne's War Memorial, which is a wonderfully impressive site, and there are incredible views of the city from the top of the steps. There's also a fire that is kept constantly burning in memory of the soldiers that lost their lives.
On from the War Memorial, we walked to the botanic gardens and spent a couple of hours wandering round admiring the plants and scenery, and enjoying the inevitable stop at the garden cafe. They're large gardens and I don't think we really had enough time to see everything and take the meandering walk around that you probably should in a botanic garden. It's definitely on my 'To Visit Again' list, probably in summer when all the flowers are in bloom.
My last few days in Melbourne with Justine flew by far too quickly, and all too soon I was at Southern Cross station saying goodbye and watching her leave on the bus to the airport. There were, however, plenty of promises of a return visit at some point, which I'll certainly be holding her to! By that time, I hope to have seen more of Melbourne myself and really have a chance to take any visitors around the best bits – so let me know when you're all planning to come over!!
